I've always had a fascination
for Mars, fuelled by my healthy
appetite for scifi novels and
the recent run of movies. This
piece is a crew's eye view
in a low orbit over the more
mountainous polar regions
with some volcanic activity.

I made this vortex a while ago
but couldn't find a use for it
in it's original form. I decided
to encase it in ice as it would
be virtually impossible to do
and therefore push it nicely
into surrealism. The effect is
a mix of lacquer & hot wax

Frozen Vortex

Barriers in space are always
depicted as some form of
electric force field or similar
and I thought it would be fun
to have something made of
solid matter.  The metal parts
are made from space wrecks
from a previous ion force field.

If you could smell this picture
it would be quite unpleasant.
 The alien body has obviously
being treated with some form
of preservative giving it that
unsettling gelatinous effect.
I imagine this would be one
of the creatures hearts ...
